HC Deb 05 December 1962 vol 668 cc177-8W
62. Mr. Sorensen

asked the Minister of Transport, in view of the desirability of cars being left near outer London tube stations in order that their owners avoid congesting streets in inner London areas, what short- and long-term policies he has to minimise problems arising from parking near tube stations; and if he will take powers to ensure car owners a right of access to their own household garages in those localities.

Mr. Marples

The solution to these problems is the provision of adequate off-street parking space. This is the responsibility of the London Transport Executive and local authorities. It is also a field for private enterprise. The Executive, I understand, have already provided 3,374 spaces and have plans for a further 1,600.

The police have adequate powers to deal with the obstruction of access to frontage premises.
