HC Deb 05 December 1962 vol 668 c177W
61. Sir W. Wakefield

asked the Minister of Transport if he will take steps to ensure adequate provision of off-street parking in Central London in view of the failure of the London County Council to provide adequate off-street parking facilities, as evidenced by their rejection of the plan of St. Marylebone Borough Council for a garage in Chiltern Street.

Mr. Marples

I understand that the Borough Council have appealed against the London County Council's refusal of planning permission for the Chiltern Street garage. I will not therefore comment on that particular matter. The job of providing off-street parking is in general one for the Metropolitan Boroughs rather than the London County Council. I have no powers myself. Some boroughs are getting on well, and I hope their example will encourage others.
