asked the Minister of Transport if he will make a statement on the letter dated 22nd November, which he has sent to local authorities in the London area, with respect to classified roads which are main roads but not designated as trunk or metropolitan roads.

Mr. Marples

The letter was intended to invite the views of London local authorities on the list of proposed metropolitan roads included in the Greater London Bill. All other roads in Greater London, except trunk roads, will be the responsibility of the London Borough Councils or the Common Council. If they are classified roads they will remain eligible for grant.
