HC Deb 17 April 1962 vol 658 cc44-5W
89. Mr. W. R. Williams

asked the Postmaster-General what the size of the order list for telephones in the United Kingdom was at 31st March, 1962; and what he anticipates the corresponding figure will be for 31st March, 1963.

Mr. Bevins

On the 31st March, 1962, the order list was 147,000, made up of 99,000 applications under inquiry or in course of being met, and 48,000 on the waiting list. A year ago the order list was 170,000. There must be some speculation about the figure for 31st March, 1963, since this will depend on the relationship between new demand and the 450,000 telephones I expect to be connected during the next twelve months.

90. Mr. W. R. Williams

asked the Postmaster-General what was the size of the waiting list for telephones in each telephone area in the United Kingdom at 31st March, 1962; and what proportion this bore in each case to the total number of subscribers in the area.

Mr. Bevins
