HC Deb 24 November 1959 vol 614 cc25-6W
81. Mr. Janner

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs whether, with a view to reducing and simplifying the present volume of local enactments in this country, he will undertake, during the course of the present Parliament, to introduce comprehensive legislation which will eliminate the necessity for a wide range of Clauses in local Bills and investigate the possibility of consolidating the remaining local enactments.

Mr. H. Brooke

The Bills to which I referred in my answer to a Question by the hon. Member for Stalybridge and Hyde (Mr. Blackburn) on 10th November should help towards this end. But responsibility for consolidating local enactments must lie with the local authorities and other bodies for whose purposes they were passed.
