HC Deb 24 November 1959 vol 614 c25W
80. Mr. Gresham Cooke

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs what steps he is taking to control the development of the north side of Piccadilly Circus, in view of the 13-storey building being erected there, about the architectural treatment of which the Royal Fine Art Commission has expressed dissatisfaction.

Mr. Skeet

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs whether he is aware that the construction of a 13-storey block of buildings on the northern side of Piccadilly Circus will affect the historic features of the area and spoil its general amenity; and what bodies besides the Royal Fine Art Commission were consulted before approving the plans for the new building.

Mr. H. Brooke

I decided to direct that this application should be referred to me for my own decision. A public inquiry will be held at an early date.
