HC Deb 17 December 1959 vol 615 cc243-4W
Mr. Malcolm MacMillan

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what progress has been made in the negotiations with Ross and Cromarty County Council about the construction of a pier art Brevig, Isle of Lewis; what is the revised estimated cost of the scheme; and when it is likely to begin.

Mr. Maclay

Ross and Cromarty County Council has submitted revised proposals for a pier at Brevig estimated to cost some£50,000 or more. The council has been asked for fuller particulars of its proposals and, until they have been examined in detail, I cannot say what assistance may be given. The estimated cost, however, is still very high in relation to the present and prospective level of fishing activity in the area.
