HC Deb 17 December 1959 vol 615 c244W
Mr. Malcolm MacMillan

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what has been the total cost to date of the Lochportain road, North Uist; what length of road has still to be constructed to complete the link with the main island highway; and what is the estimated total cost of this additional length of road.

Mr. Maclay

The total cost of the Lochportain road, including Cheesebay and Hoebeg branches, is£65,900. Some 3½ miles of road are required to link with the main island highway. The plans for this length of road are being worked out by the engineers and the cost of the works cannot yet be estimated.
