Mr. Malcolm MacMillanasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he is aware of the shortage of dental treatment facilities in the Isle of Lewis; and what measures have been, and are being, taken to provide adequate service in accordance with his statutory obligations under National Health Service legislation.
§ Mr. MaclayThe county council is advertising for an additional school dental officer for Lewis and a firm of dentists practising in Stornoway is advertising for an assistant. I have authorised the executive council to meet the additional expenditure incurred by any mainland dentists who visit and treat people in Lewis while there is a shortage of dentists on the island.
