asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many appeals there were from the Liverpool City Magistrates' Courts to the Liverpool City Quarter Sessions for each of the 12 months ended 31st December, 1948, 31st December, 1949, 31st December, 1950, 31st December, 1951, and 31st December, 1952; in how many cases the sentences were increased, remained the same or were reduced; and in what number of cases, due to be tried before the stipendiary magistrate in each of these periods, the accused person elected to go for trial to quarter sessions.
