HC Deb 17 December 1953 vol 522 cc86-7W
76. Mr. Oliver

asked the Minister of Education whether she will now consider the building of a school in Ripley, Derbyshire, to accommodate juniors and infants; and how far she is satisfied that when the building of two additional classrooms and the new school at Belper are completed, all the children of Ripley will be able to receive their education in a properly equipped school and proper environment instead of in odd rooms about the town with inadequate facilities.

Miss Horsbrugh

I am ready to consider any proposal that the authority may decide to put before me. I have, however, already approved the provision of four additional classrooms at Ripley as well as a new secondary school at Belper, and I am satisfied on present evidence that this will enable the authority to meet the needs of the area within the policy set out in Circular 245.
