HC Deb 17 December 1953 vol 522 c86W
74. Miss Ward

asked the Minister of Education if she will reject the Burnham award which widens the differentiation between the salaries of men and women teachers, in view of the decision of the Government to take steps towards introducing equal pay immediately the finances of the country permit.

Miss Horsbrugh

The Burnham Committee's recommendations have not yet been submitted to me and I am, therefore, not in a position to make any statement on them.

75. Mr. Chetwynd

asked the Minister of Education whether she has considered the graduate teachers' petition concerning the proposals of the Burnham Committee; and what reply she has made.

Miss Horsbrugh

I have received a number of petitions from graduate teachers, to which I replied that I had not yet received the recommendations of the Burnham Committees, and that I could not properly express any opinion on them until I had received them.
