Mr. N. Macpherson

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he will appoint a committee to re-examine the Scottish system of rating and equalisation grants in the light of present economic circumstances.

An investigation into the working of the Exchequer equalisation grant arrangements in Scotland has already begun and the result of it will be reported to Parliament in due course.
