HC Deb 02 December 1952 vol 508 c141W
100. Mr. Rankin

asked the Lord Advocate whether, in view of the contravention of the Protection of Animals Act, 1911 and of the Performing Animals (Regulation) Act, 1925, further details of which have now been sent to him, he will now institute proceedings against Richard Chipperfield and Edward Jonsson in connection with the mauling of an elephant by a tigress at a public performance in Glasgow on 25th June last.

The Lord Advocate

No. I have considered all the information put before me and I have decided not to institute proceedings in connection with the incident at the circus performance in Glasgow on 25th June last.
