HC Deb 20 November 1951 vol 494 c32W
Mr. Lewis

asked the Minister of Works if he will give an assurance that any intended Government cuts or restrictions in building will not apply to West Ham, in view of the fact that this is the worst bombed borough in the country.

Mr. Eccles

No. The reductions announced by my right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer on 7th November are designed to enable building schemes to proceed more quickly by reducing the overload of work, and I have every confidence that the building work in the bomb damaged areas can be speeded up if the available labour force is concentrated on few jobs.
