HC Deb 20 November 1951 vol 494 cc31-2W
106. Mr. Murray

asked the Minister of Works how many new factory buildings are under construction in the North-Eastern district; and to what extent this work will now be prevented from being completed.

Mr. Eccles

There are 30 factory buildings under construction in Northumberland, Durham and the North Riding of Yorkshire areas. The restriction on the starting of new buildings, recently announced by my right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer, does not apply to work already under construction.

107. Mr. Murray

asked the Minister of Works how many new schools and hospitals are under construction, or approved, in the North-East district; and to what extent they will be allowed to be completed.

Mr. Eccles

On 1st October, the latest date for which figures are available, there were 76 new schools under construction and three schools approved to start in November, in the area of Northumberland, Durham and the North Riding of Yorkshire. It is intended that these schools should proceed to completion as quickly as possible. There are no new hospitals under construction or approved in this area.
