HC Deb 19 March 1951 vol 485 cc234-5W
110. Mr. Hurd

asked the Minister of Food the terms of the undertaking given to Australian meat producers assuring them a satisfactory market here for increased supplies; and if a due premium for quality beef will be paid.

Mr. F. Willey

In pursuance of the understanding reached between my right hon. Friend's predecessor and Mr. Chiffley amout a 15-year contract for meat, negotiations are now taking place for the purchase of the whole of Australia's exportable surplus of beef, veal, mutton and lamb without limits as to quantity. Prices will be subject to annual review on the basis of giving a reasonable return to the producers. Appropriate arrangements for the payment of quality premiums will be included.
