§ 27. Mr. Stokesasked the Secretary of State of Foreign Affairs why the factory and office building known as Alkett in the Spandau district of Berlin are due to be demolished; and whether he is aware that a proposal has been made to convert the building, which is in excellent state of repair, into flats for the local population.
Mr. McNeilThe building is being demolished as a war plant. It is of exceptionally heavy construction, and was specially designed for tank production. It is considered unsuitable for conversion into any form of living accommodation, and I am not aware of any proposal to convert it into flats.
