HC Deb 19 November 1947 vol 444 c191W
Mr. Blackburn

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power what is the part played by the Fuel Efficiency Committee of his Ministry in connection with the scheme for the allocation of coal to industry.

Mr. Gaitskell

In drawing up the winter scheme of allocation of coal to industry, careful attention was paid to the recommendations of the Fuel Efficiency Committee. In particular the assessment of the requirements of individual firms, assumes that all practicable steps are being taken to secure fuel efficiency and therefore provides an incentive for this to be done. Moreover, the fact that stocks held by individual firms at the end of the summer were not taken into account in settling their allocations has undoubtedly given great encouragement to economy in the use of fuel by industry.
