§ 12. Mr. Gammansasked the Minister of Food if he will consider the desirability of putting on points butter, eggs and bacon which can be obtained from Denmark or from any other country with which we have a favourable balance of trade, but which are obtainable only at prices above those which are paid for similar commodities forming part of the ration.
§ Mr. StracheyIt would cause confusion both to consumers and to traders to allow any substantial quantities of the same types of food to be sold both against points and as part of a basic ration, nor is the points scheme normally suitable for the distribution of perishable foods. Many of our supplies of rationed food can only be obtained at prices much higher than the prices at which they are resold to the consumers in this country.
