HC Deb 10 November 1947 vol 444 c2W
10. Commander Galbraith

asked the Minister of Food what are the original and final arrangements made between his Ministry and Canadian salmon packers for the purchase of tinned salmon from this year's pack for the British market.

Mr. Strachey

The original arrangement was that my Ministry would purchase minimum percentages of each species of salmon which would have amounted to about 45 per cent. of the whole pack. The final arrangement which we had to make owing to the shortage of dollars was to purchase such quantities as the Canadian canners could not sell elsewhere up to a maximum of 20 per cent. of each species.
