HC Deb 10 November 1947 vol 444 c3W
16. Mr. Touche

asked the Minister of Food whether he has considered the resolution passed by the Dorking U.D.C. regarding serious and repeated instances of wastage of meat arising from the present centralised slaughtering arrangements at Croydon; if he will state the amount of meat so far wasted and what action he is taking to prevent further wastage.

Mr. Strachey

Sixteen-and-a-half cwt. of meat were condemned by the Dorking local authority's inspector, for reasons other than disease, in the six months April to September, 1947. Steps had already been taken before the resolution was received to correct the structural defects in the Croydon slaughterhouse which were responsible for a part of these condemnations.
