HC Deb 03 February 1947 vol 432 c279W
75. Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the Minister of Food what quantity and value of pre-packed cereal breakfast foods, imported and home-produced, respectively, were consumed in Great Britain during the last 12 months or other convenient period; and if he will take steps to encourage an increase in the production, sale and consumption of the latter, as against the former, in view of the great potentialities of the mills of the north of Scotland.

Mr. Strachey

53,700 tons of home-produced ready-to-eat cereal breakfast foods, worth about £5,799,000 at retail prices, were distributed in 1946; none of this type have been imported since 1942. 229 tons of imported pre-packed oatflakes worth about £9,600, and 29,892 tons of home produced pre-packed oatflakes worth about £1,307,800 were distributed during the year. Every encouragement is given to home manufacturers to meet this country's requirements
