asked the Lord Privy Seal if he will give an estimate of the population of each of the coastal towns concerned, in March of each of the years from 1938 to 1946, respectively; and an estimate, based on rehabilitation plans, of their respective populations in 1947.

Mr. Bevan:

I have been asked to reply. It is not clear what localities the hon. and gallant Member has in mind but it is assumed that the Question relates to the 29 towns which were invited to be represented at the original Conference on the Rehabilitation of South East coastal towns which was held at the War Office on 1st November, 1944. The following table gives the populations during each of the years 1938–1946. I am not in a position to give an estimate on the basis indicated in respect of 1947.
