HC Deb 15 May 1946 vol 422 c260W
Mr. G. Williams

asked the Minister of Agriculture why the entrance to Kew Gardens is closed at 7 p.m.; and whether owing to the enjoyment derived from the gardens by all sections of the community, he will extend the time to the nearest half hour before sunset.

Mr. T. Williams:

The gates at Kew Gardens, which are at present closed at 7.30 p.m., will shortly be kept open up to 8 p.m. until August. I have considered this matter sympathetically, but any further extension of the hours would cause great staffing difficulties and would also increase the strain on the evening transport facilities in the district. I have, therefore, regretfully come to the conclusion that I cannot accept the hon. Member's suggestion.
