HC Deb 02 April 1946 vol 421 c159W
107. Sir J. Mellor

asked the Minister of Works why, having regard to the provisions of Regulation 68CA, the Government continue to requisition for use as offices, housing accommodation available for residence; and on what authority the Government purport to take such action.

Mr. Tomlinson:

It is not the practice of Government Departments to requisition for use as offices housing accommodation which can readily be used for residential purposes. The provisions of Regulation 68CA are complied with by Departments. The powers of the Government to requisition and hold properties on requisition are contained in the Requisitioned Land and War Works Act, 1945, and the Supplies and Services (Transitional Powers) Act, 1945.
