HC Deb 02 April 1946 vol 421 c158W
105. Mr. Gammans

asked the Minister of Works for what amount a licence has been issued for the repair of the Liverpool Exchange buildings and the adjoining offices; if licences for similar amounts have been granted for any war-damaged office property in London or elsewhere; and what is the policy regarding the issue of such licences generally.

Mr. Tomlinson:

The amount of the licence for work on the Liverpool Exchange Buildings was £138,370, and this is the largest amount so far authorised for the repair of a single war damaged office property. Applications for the repair of war damaged offices are considered in the light of the cost of the work in relation to the floor space to be brought into use, the local demand for building labour and materials, and the importance of the use to be made of the premises. The decision in this case was influenced by the need for reducing unemployment in Liverpool.
