HC Deb 09 October 1945 vol 414 c62W
Mr. Lipson

asked the Secretary of State for War if it is the policy of the military authorities to encourage fraternisation between British and Russian troops in Berlin and other places where they occupy adjoining zones; and what has been done to help to bring this about.

Mr. Lawson

Yes, Sir. It is the policy of the military authorities to maintain friendly relations between British and Russian troops wherever zones adjoin. Although certain restrictions on movement across the frontier exist outside Berlin, movement between the zones in Berlin is unrestricted except after curfew, and the entry of troops to each others' clubs is permitted by invitation. Contacts at sports meetings are frequent, and inter-allied team games are encouraged.
