HC Deb 09 October 1945 vol 414 cc62-3W
Mr. Turton

asked the Secretary of State for War how many British prisoners of war are still unaccounted for in the Russian zone of Germany; and whether officials of the British Army of the Rhine Search Bureau have received permission to search for these men in the Russian zone.

Mr. Lawson

It is estimated that there are about 150 British prisoners of war unaccounted for in the Russian zone of occupied Germany. The Russian authorities have been asked by the British element of the Control Commission to allow search teams into their zone, and itineraries of the proposed search have been submitted to the Russian authorities, but final approval for the entry into the Russian zone has not yet been received.
