asked the Secretary of State for Scotland the names of the members of the advisory committee or committees who recommend the appointment of justices of the peace for the county of Argyll?

Mr. Johnston

The appointments in question are made by my noble Friend the Lord Chancellor on the recommendation of his advisory committee for the county of Argyll. The chairman of the committee is Maclachlan of Maclachlan and the other members are: Mr. Charles MacTaggart, Colonel T. O. Lloyd, the Captain of Dunstaffnage, Sir Norman Lamont, Mr. Duncan McNeill, Mr. Archibald Macalister.

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland the names and territorial addresses of the most recent appointments as justices of the peace for the county of Argyll, and their political associations or views?

Mr. Johnston

I am sending my hon. Friend a list of the names and addresses of the 48 justices of the peace appointed in the county of Argyll since the beginning of 1941. My Noble Friend the Lord Chancellor informs me however that he is not aware of their political associations or views.
