HC Deb 19 May 1942 vol 380 c43W
Mr. W. Joseph Stewart

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Works and Buildings what arrangements are being made to collect scrap metal from collieries and other industrial undertakings in the administrative county of Durham and the county boroughs of Sunderland and South Shields, respectively?

Mr. Hicks

In addition to the normal trade arrangements, an officer of my Ministry has been specially appointed to accelerate generally the recovery and collection of scrap metal from collieries and from certain large industrial undertakings. He will be in Durham for this purpose during this week.
