HC Deb 09 December 1942 vol 385 cc1579-80W
Sir P. Hannon

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he will make a statement, from the latest information available, on the present condition of the inhabitants of the islands of Tristan da Cunha and St. Helena?

Colonel Stanley

Reports received during recent months from Tristan da Cunha do not indicate any need for anxiety about the condition of the population. Food supplies are assured. As regards St. Helena, stocks of essential food supplies are purchased in bulk by Government and the local production of food supplies has been substantially increased. In spite of the war, all possible measures are being taken for the betterment of the condition of the Islanders.
