HC Deb 06 August 1942 vol 382 c1216W
Flight-Lieutenant Boothby

asked the Minister of Supply whether, in view of the fact that a considerable quantity of last year's crop of flax in the North of Scotland was lost, owing to the failure of the Ministry of Supply to pull it before the weather broke, he will take steps to ensure that this year's crop will be secured in time?

Mr. Peat

The loss of part of the flax crop in the North of Scotland last year was due in the main to abnormal weather conditions during harvesting. All possible steps have been taken by providing machinery and labour to ensure the safe harvesting of this year's crop, although this must depend to some extent upon the weather at harvesting time.
