Mr. De la Bèreasked the Minister of Agriculture whether he will call the attention of farmers throughout the country to the desirability of producing Jerusalem artichokes, both for human consumption, and more especially for feeding-stuff for cattle, since the crop of Jerusalem artichokes is six times as prolific as that of potatoes, and can produce 30 tons of tubers per acre; and whether he will make known, as far as practicable, its immunity from disease and that it can be grown in almost any soil and situation, and after glucose has been extracted the residue of the plant is available as a feeding-stuff for fattening cattle and pigs?
§ Sir R. Dorman-SmithAttention has been drawn to this crop in the Ministry's publicity service; a leaflet on the subject has also been prepared and will be ready for issue in a few days.
