asked the Minister of Labour what is the average or /and highest additional winter allowance made to Unemployment Assistance Board applicants in the Western Isles this winter; and at what date the additional allowances will be discontinued?

On 21st November last the average additional winter allowance made to applicants for unemployment assistance in the Western Isles in cases where such an allowance was granted was between 1s. 2d. and 1s. 3d. per week, the highest allowance being 3s. per week. As stated in the Board's instruction, a copy of which was placed in the Library, the last payment of winter allowances will be made in respect of the pay week which expires in the week ending 15th April next.
