HC Deb 14 December 1939 vol 355 cc1301-2W
Colonel Baldwin-Webb

asked the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what direct or indirect interest his Department or any official of his Department has or I: as had in the Midland Wholesale Meat Supply Association, Limited, which was registered on 5th September to make and carry out arrangements with respect to the wholesale meat trade in the Midland area?

Mr. W. S. Morrison

The Midland Wholesale Meat Supply Association, Limited, is one of eight similar Associations that have been set up by the Ministry of Food to act as agents of the Ministry for the wholesale distribution of meat, when full control of meat and livestock has been introduced. The Midland Association incorporates the wholesale meat traders in the following counties:

Shropshire. Hereford.
Warwick. Northampton.
Leicester Rutland.
Stafford. Worcester.
Derby. Lincoln.
Nottingham.

Under the Association's Articles of Association, I have the right to nominate up to five members of the Association and a member of the Management Committee: one of the former and the latter will have the power to exercise a majority vote. I have not yet made these nominations. One of the Trade Officers of the Meat and Livestock Branch of the Ministry is a partner of a firm which is a member of the Midland Association. He is serving in the Ministry under the conditions stated in the answer I gave to the hon. and gallant Member on the 1st November last.
