HC Deb 14 December 1939 vol 355 c1301W
Mr. Butcher

asked the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster whether he is aware of the unanimous desire of the meat traders of East Elloe Rural District Council, Lincolnshire, for a slaughterhouse at Long Sutton; that a satisfactory building is available; whether this building has been examined by officers of his Department; and whether, in the interests of efficient distribution, he will sanction such arrangements for a trial period?

Mr. W. S. Morrison

I have given careful consideration to the question of including a slaughterhouse at Long Sutton in the Control Scheme for meat, but I am satisfied that the needs of the area can be properly met from the slaughterhouse at Spalding. I am, therefore, not prepared to authorise the use of a slaughterhouse at Long Sutton. In these circumstances the question of inspecting slaughterhouses at Long Sutton did not arise. If experience of the scheme indicates any inadequacy in the meat supply arrangements the matter will be reconsidered.
