HC Deb 02 March 1937 vol 321 c190W
Mr. C. Wilson

asked the Secretary for Mines whether he can give the names of the collieries in the North Derbyshire area which are turning coal regularly on Sunday; and why a lower rate is paid for Sunday than for other days?

Captain Crookshank

I understand that the Leewood and Scarsdale Collieries, which employ less than 20 men each, are the only mines in Derbyshire which work regularly every Sunday. Two other small mines, Hopewell and Cobnar Wood, work one or two out of every three Sundays regularly. With regard to the last part of the question, I am not aware that any lower rates of wages are paid for Sunday work.
