HC Deb 02 December 1937 vol 329 cc2264-5W
Mr. De Chair

asked the Minister of Transport whether he can state the present volume of traffic on the existing King's Lynn-Norwich road compared with that within a reasonable radius of London on the Great North Road, the Great West Road, and the Southend bypass, respectively?

Mr. Burgin

The daily average numbers of motor vehicles, horse-drawn vehicles and pedal cycles enumerated at selected points on the undermentioned roads during a week in August, 1935, were:

whether he will consider the establishment of an independent committee to investigate the finances and operation of these services?

Mr. Burgin

I have no jurisdiction in this matter, which is regulated by the provisions of the London Passenger Transport Act, 1933. I understand that the Board's season ticket rates on the road services from Aldgate to Romford and Upminster are appreciably lower than those on the main line railways and the Board state that these rates are uneconomical and unremunerative. In these circumstances, they are proposing to make certain adjustments in their season ticket arrangements.
