HC Deb 21 December 1933 vol 284 c1486W
Mr. T. SMITH

asked the Secretary of State for India whether he can give any information as to the amount of protection under the Steel Industry Protection Act, 1927, afforded to the Tata Iron and Steel Company; when this protection is due to expire; and whether it is intended by the Government of India to prolong is, and for what period?

Sir S. HOARE

In reply to the first part of the question, I would refer the hon. Member to Part VII of Schedule II to the Indian Tariff Act, of which I am sending him a copy. The protective duties are due to expire on 31st March, 1934. The Tariff Board have been asked to report on the question of the continuance of the protection of the steel industry.
