HC Deb 21 December 1933 vol 284 c1486W
Mr. T. WILLIAMS

asked the Secretary of State for India the number of Russian refugees who have entered India from the Kashgar district and South Russia, respectively, in the past three months; and what provisions, if any, the Government of India have made in respect of these people?

Sir S. HOARE

Considerable numbers of Russian refugees have entered India from or through Chinese Turkestan recently, but I have no statistics for the past three months. I am in communication with the Government of India as to the numbers of refugees involved and as to the steps to be taken to deal with them; meanwhile, temporary arrangements for their maintenance in India at the public expense have been made.
