HC Deb 05 November 1929 vol 231 c856W
Mr. O. BALDWIN

asked the Postmaster-General whether he will grant free postage to Members of the House of Commons for all letters posted by them in the precincts of the House?

Mr. LEES-SMITH

The hon. Member's proposal would revive in a modified form the system of franking which was abolished by the Penny Postage Act of 1840, and I see serious objections to its adoption.
