HC Deb 02 May 1929 vol 227 c1733W
Commander COCHRANE

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury if he is aware that the privilege of payment of salary, &c, on the last instead of the first day of the month, which was granted by the Treasury several years ago, is being withheld in the case of superannuated officials of the Customs and Excise Department; and whether he will extend the privilege to these officials, in view of the fact that it has all along been granted to superannuated officials of other Departments, including the Post Office?

Mr. SAMUEL

I am informed that it is not the practice of the Customs and Excise Department to pay pensions to superannuated officials until the first day following the period for which the pension is due. I am having inquiries made as to the possibility of altering this practice in the manner suggested by my hon. and gallant Friend, and will communicate the result to him in due course.
