asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury why the amounts that were paid in rent for the occupation of land by British troops in France and damage for disturbance cannot be given under their respective headings; and why in this case the Treasury accept accounts lumped together which ought to be under separate headings?

I am informed that the reason why more detailed information is not available is that most of the detailed records, having been retained for the prescribed period, have now been destroyed.
