The total net cost of the Metropolitan police for the financial years ending 31st March, 1914, and 31st March last was £2,591,416 and £7,114,587 and the police rate was 6¾d. and 1s. 0¼d. in the £1. In 1913–14 the cost was divided between the Exchequer and the rates approximately in the proportion of four-ninths and five-ninths; it is now shared equally.
