HC Deb 12 April 1927 vol 205 c206W
Mr. WARDLAW-MILNE

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether there has been an increased output of goods manufactured in trades protected under the Safeguarding of Industries Act since its introduction; and, if so, to what extent?

Sir P. CUNLIFFE-LISTER

I presume that my hon. Friend's question relates to articles of the kinds covered by Part I of the Safeguarding of Industries Act, 1921. I would refer him to the Report of the Special Committee on those industries which was published in April of last year [Cmd. 2631]. From that Report he will see that, in practically all the industries to which it relates, production initiated during the War had been maintained since the passing of the Act, in spite of adverse economic conditions, and that in a number of cases there had been a marked advance alike in quantity and in quality of output.
