§ Colonel GRETTONasked the President of the Board of Trade what, if any, has been the cost of the Government Committee on Trade and Industry; and if it is intended to dissolve the Committee when it issues its Report, as anticipated, towards the end of the current year?
§ Sir P. CUNLIFFE-LISTERThe cost of the Committee on Industry and Trade since its appointment in July, 1924, so far as the Board of Trade is concerned, has been £10,069 including the salaries of the permanent officials occupied with the work, but exclusive of charges for stationery and printing. My hon. and gallant Friend will, no doubt, appreciate the fact that this difficult inquiry has made very heavy demands on the time of the members, who have given their services 207W gratuitously and in the majority of cases have made no claims for expenses. It is not intended to continue the Committee in being after it has presented its final Report.
