HC Deb 05 May 1920 vol 128 c2107W
Brigadier-General COLVIN

asked the Secretary of State for War and Air (1) whether, in the event of the Royal Gunpowder Factory at Waltham Abbey being closed, it is proposed to hand it over to the Disposal Board; whether the transfer, disposal, and compensation of employes will be administered by the War Office;

(2) Whether, having regard to the large quantity of cordite in stock, the Royal Gunpowder Factory at Waltham Abbey can produce sufficient cordite, in conjunction with the factory at Poole, to meet the estimated requirements of the Army and Navy and Air Force; and whether the War Office are in agreement with the Majority Report issued by the Committee of Inquiry into the future of His Majesty's factories at Gretna and Waltham Abbey?

Mr. CHURCHILL

The details of the transfer of these and other factories are still under consideration. I am unable therefore to answer the hon. and gallant Member's questions at present, but I will make a statement on the subject at a later date.
