§ Sir FREDERICK CAWLEYasked the President of the Board of Education what Grant, both total and per head, is given to each of the following schools: the Manchester Grammar School, the Hulme Grammar School, Manchester, the Hulme Grammar School, Oldham, the Manchester High School for Girls, and the Leeds Grammar School; on what basis is the grants given; and what is the composition of the governing body in each case?
§ Mr. RUNCIMANThe Hulme Grammar School, Manchester, is not in receipt of grant from the Board of Education. In the other schools named, the grant for the last school year in respect of which grant has been paid was:—
(1908–9) £ Manchester Grammar School 3,816 Manchester High School for Girls 1,951 (1909–10) Oldham, Hulme Grammar School for Boys 523 Oldham, Hulme Grammar School for Girls 546 Leeds Grammar School 996 The Grants above-mentioned were paid on the basis set forth in Article 36 of the Regulations for Secondary Schools. These grants are not necesarily earned by every pupil in a Secondary school which receives 1420W grants under the Regulations. The total amounts set out above work out at the equivalent per head on the total number of pupils (whether grant-earning or not) in the schools on 31st January in the year in respect of which the grant was paid, of—
