HL Deb 20 March 1997 vol 579 c1163

8.22 p.m.

Baroness Denton of Wakefield rose to move, That the draft order laid before the House on 24th February be approved.

The noble Baroness said: My Lords, I do not disguise the fact that this is a complex order. However, it is aimed at simplifying complex titles to land in Northern Ireland. It can only be to the benefit of the economy. I say simply that if there are questions on the order I undoubtedly would have to write to your Lordships, and I shall be happy to do so.

I wonder whether the noble Lord, Lord Williams of Mostyn, will wish to take this opportunity to put on the record a reassurance to his colleagues in another place who wanted to be convinced that this is not another part of the lawyers' money-making machine, the major beneficiaries of which are lawyers rather than the public. I beg to move.

Moved, That the draft order laid before the House on 24th February be approved.—(Baroness Denton of Wakefield.)

On Question. Motion agreed to.
